About this place
When sharing a pot of miso chanko, savour the ingredients one by one and keep the filling finish in mind as you order. Diners have described Edonoumi’s version as containing meatballs, pork, chicken drumsticks, Chinese cabbage, tofu, enoki mushrooms and konjac. One account says two servings shared between two people were more than enough; another singled out the chanko meatballs as a memorable dish. Hot pot can be ordered by the serving, though the menu lists a per-serving price of 2,200 yen when ordering two servings or more, and 2,800 yen for a single serving. Consider the group size when deciding how much to order.
Miso is not the only option: one diner reported choosing salt- or soy-flavoured chanko for the lunch set. Another had a soy-based hot pot with tuna and spring onion. If you would like to compare flavours and ingredients, ask what options are available when you order.
The lunchtime chanko hot pot set costs 1,500 yen and comes with udon and rice, making it a substantial choice when you want a meal centred on the pot. Other options on the menu include a lightly salted grilled silver salmon set for 1,200 yen and a sashimi assortment set for 2,000 yen. Diners who have chosen the lunch sashimi set more than once have commented on the thickness of the slices, their substance and the portion size. Fish sets are worth considering if you would prefer something other than hot pot at lunchtime. In the evening, the menu also lists the day’s sashimi assortment and domestically sourced raw Aizu horse sashimi, among other dishes to enjoy while the hot pot cooks.
The drinks menu offers different pairings for hot pot and fish. For miso chanko, it recommends Katafune Junmai from Niigata; with fish, it suggests Hitakami Chokarakuchi Junmai from Miyagi. Use the tasting notes as a guide when choosing a drink to go with the hot pot or a small plate. Among the latter are the reliably piquant cucumber appetiser and Edonoumi’s meat and potato dish, which one diner praised for its well-seasoned potatoes and meat. Either can make a good interlude between the food and drinks on a chanko-focused evening.
Lunch is served Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:30 to 13:30; dinner service runs Tuesday through Sunday. Reservations are available, and the restaurant recommends booking for dinner. If you know how many people will be sharing a hot pot, consider reserving ahead to suit your plans.
